Experience

George Nyfeler brings 27 years of industry experience to Nyfeler Associates.

Mr. Nyfeler has been managing professional design-related services in Central Virginia since 1994. Over the course of his first decade of working in Virginia, he reorganized and led the headquarters survey department of the largest civil design firm in Central Virginia, Timmons Group, serving as Vice President of North Carolina Survey Operations and as a member of the board of directors for 7 of his 12 years with the firm.

In 2006, Mr. Nyfeler joined McCrone, Inc. to lead the establishment of a civil engineering presence in Virginia. During that time he led successful efforts toward breaking into new markets for the company that included:

  • Public, non-profit and for-profit affordable housing development and re-development civil design projects.
    • Dove Court/Carrington Gardens/NorthRidge redevelopment, Goose Creek Phases 3 & 4, South Barton Heights Section 2 and numerous other projects for the Richmond Redevelopment and Housing Authority.
    • Oak Summit, Lincoln Mews Phases 1 & 2, Claiborne Square and other projects for the Better Housing Coalition.
    • Hatcher Tobacco Flats and Model Tobacco redevelopment projects for Hunt Investments, LLC.
    • Bobber Flats redevelopment project in Shockoe Bottom for Monument Construction.
  • Numerous survey layout projects for large and medium size general contractors engaged in BRAC related construction for Department of Defense projects.
    • U.S. Army Sustainment Center of Excellence, Ft. Lee - for Tompkins Builders, Inc (site and steel layout).
    • U.S. Army TRADOC HQ, Ft. Eustis - for Tompkins Builders, Inc. (site and steel layout).

Mr. Nyfeler is a regular columnist for the Richmond Times Dispatch, having been published on a number of occasions covering topics related to urban development and redevelopment, regional governance and affordable housing.
